World Fishing Championship Concludes on Lake Modrac: Outstanding Individual Result by a Bosnian Angler

After several days of exciting competition on Lake Modrac, fishing enthusiasts around the world finally have their new world champions.

Lake Modrac in Lukavac became the center of attention for anglers from across the globe as the 71st World Championship in Float Fishing came to an end.

In a dramatic finish, Italy outperformed its rivals, overtaking Croatia and France. With a total of 31 penalty points and 94,344 grams of catch, they claimed the gold medal. Croatia secured silver, trailing by only half a point (31.5 points, 92,721 grams), while France—despite having the highest overall catch of 103,905 grams—finished third due to a greater number of penalty points (34.5). Hungary and England placed fourth and fifth with 43 and 45 points, respectively.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, after an excellent eighth place on the first day, finished a respectable 15th out of 30 participating nations, earning 79 points and a total catch of 75,576 grams. Many strong European teams remained behind our national selection, further highlighting the success achieved by our competitors, reports SportDC.

In the individual standings, the world champion title went to Hungary’s András Nagy, with a catch of 26,270 grams. Second place was taken by Slovenia’s Aleš Kancler (24,640 g), third by Italy’s Filippo Beltrami (24,570 g), while Spain’s Mark Gelon Martinez (21,550 g) finished fourth.

A fantastic result was also achieved by Muris Đug, who placed fifth with 21,316 grams, confirming his reputation as one of the world’s top anglers.

The competition concluded with a medal ceremony and a closing dinner, where all participants gathered to congratulate the best teams and individuals.

The World Championship on Modrac showcased not only a top-level sporting event but also the hospitality of the hosts. Lukavac, Tuzla, and Bosnia and Herzegovina once again demonstrated that they are fully capable of hosting events of the highest international caliber.
