First steps towards building a pedestrian and bicycle path around the Modrac reservoir

The Minister of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Tuzla Canton, Anela Ajšić, signed on Thursday a contract for the procurement of a conceptual design for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle path around the Modrac lake reservoir with the representative of “URBIS CENTAR” Ltd. Banja Luka. The value of the contract amounts to 16,848.00 BAM.

“Tuzla Canton has taken on the obligation to finance this type of project documentation, which will serve as the starting basis for the cities of Tuzla, Živinice, and Lukavac in creating the main projects and implementing the pedestrian and bicycle path around the Modrac reservoir. Today we had the opportunity to sign a contract with the selected contractor, that is, the holder of the conceptual design,” said Minister Ajšić on this occasion.

The designer has a deadline of six months, starting from the day the contract is signed, to work with a commission that will be appointed by the Ministry together with representatives of the cities of Tuzla, Živinice, and Lukavac, as well as the non-governmental sector, to create a conceptual design adaptable to the terrain, economically feasible, and environmentally harmonized with the ambience of a water resource such as the Modrac reservoir.

“Our intention with this project is, above all, to promote ecological development. Strengthening awareness about the use of pedestrian and bicycle paths, as well as tourism development. This implementation, which should ultimately be realized by the cities, will greatly contribute to that,” explained Minister Ajšić.

After the completion of the conceptual design, the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection, that is, the Government of Tuzla Canton, will present the cities with the conceptual project document as a gift. It is planned that after that, each of the cities involved in the project will continue with the development in accordance with the part of the area that belongs to their administrative unit.
